Why Build Solar Projects Where There’s So Little Sunshine?

September 30, 2023 by Paul Crowe

Average daily solar irradiance – Northwestern PA is the wrong place to build solar projects

Sunshine into electricity

Solar panels convert sunshine into electricity. Northwestern Pennsylvania has some of the lowest levels of daily average sunshine found anywhere in the United States. Solar projects built here make no sense unless developers don’t care about sunshine or electricity.

Solar projects into money

Tax incentives convert solar projects into money. Tax incentives shine down everywhere, everyday. Where you are doesn’t matter. Sunshine isn’t important.

The availability of financial and other incentives for solar energy are major factors that influence where solar energy systems are installed.
~ US Energy Information Administration

This is not about solar energy

Birch Creek Development wants your tax dollars. That’s why they’re here. It’s a simple plan. Cut down trees, throw up solar panels and get out of town. They get tax credits, you get your trees cut down and your countryside littered with industrial sized, solar powered lawn ornaments.

Do you think that’s a good idea?

Why solar developers never understand

It is difficult to get a man to understand
something, when his salary depends upon
his not understanding it.

~ Upton Sinclair

It’s not ON-demand, it’s NO-demand

Solar energy is 'no-demand' electricity.
If the sun isn't shining
and you demand electricity,
the answer is no.
