The Venango Township Planning Commission has updated its response to the Venango Township Supervisors and rejects the conditional use application by Wilson Solar LLC / Birch Creek Development.
In a detailed examination of the application and referencing multiple sections of the Venango Township Zoning Ordinance, the commission shows the application does not meet the requirements necessary to allow the solar farm as a permitted conditional use nor does it meet the objectives of the comprehensive plan.
It also rejects the rezoning of the R-1 parcels to A-1 for use within the proposed project.
… after months of meetings and hearings the Venango Township Planning Commission believe the Wilson Solar Conditional Use Application fails to meet the Community Development Objectives of Venango Township’s Comprehensive Plan and the Venango Township Zoning Ordinance. Furthermore, there appears to be an overall general opposition by the local citizens to change the character of the community. The project fails to serve the public interest, convenience, and necessity due to the general opposition of the taxpayers.
The Venango Township supervisors still need to vote on the application, however, this rejection by the planning commission and sizable opposition by the residents of the township make clear this project does not benefit the township in any way. Township supervisors, considering the recommendation of the planning commission and acting as representatives of the residents, should vote against this conditional use application.
